A heavyweight animalic base built around Tonkin musk character with leathery, balsamic warmth and incense-like depth. Functions as a vintage backbone for chypre, oriental, fougère, and leather frameworks, delivering rough musk, wet hair, and honey undertones with a distinct Nag Champa vibe running through its cedar-heavy structure. Originally formulated in the late 1920s and famously deployed in Yves Saint Laurent Kouros, it remains one of the most substantive fixatives available for period-accurate compositions. Mysteriously animalic despite containing no animal products, relying instead on concentrated cedrol, cedrene, linalool, pinene, and caryophyllene to achieve its effect.
