My name is Erasmo de la Parra. I was born in Amsterdam and now I live in Madrid. I’m a film director, author, music producer, and a lifelong perfume enthusiast. Over the years I trained in Amsterdam and Barcelona with experienced perfumers, and after quietly practicing this passion for a long time I decided to bring it out into the open and launch BASED.

I also started Global South International, a perfume line shaped by urban mysticism and street culture from the Global South, and C.XIII (once Cabinet XIII), a niche house for artisanal and limited creations.

With BASED we craft our own perfume bases, bring in blends from trusted makers, and keep expanding a library of aroma chemicals. These are the hidden building blocks behind many classic perfumes, now available to anyone curious to blend, learn, and create.

My goal is to open the door to DIY perfumery. I want to take away the mystery that surrounds the craft, share what I’ve learned, and give new creators access to the materials and information they need. Perfumery can be a playful hobby, and for some it can even grow into a career. BASED is here to make that journey possible without heavy jargon or intimidating walls.

The name BASED comes from Gen Z slang, where it means being real and true to yourself. I liked how it also nods to perfume bases, so the word stuck and became the spirit of the brand.

I also give workshops in Madrid, in both Spanish and English, often with special guests. And I’m one of the moderators of the Perfumery DIY Discord, which I wholeheartedly invite you to join. It’s a community where beginners, intermediates, and advanced perfumers swap ideas, troubleshoot, and talk about the craft…
